Chapter 01: Awakening
Spartan IV Foley Lockhart woke up completely bewildered with perhaps the worst headache in his 25 years of existence. As he opened his eyes, he noticed he was trapped inside of a container of some sort. He was extremely cramped by the limited amount of space in the tube he was in, which even cryo-tubes had more space than this. He moved his hand and touched the glass like surface which faced at the sky. It was hard to move considering that he was in full MJOLNIR armor, but he could move his right arm at least. The surface he touched felt organic almost, but not quite.
Where was he? All he remembered before this was fighting on Earth against the Flood and Spartan team Lancer. After they encountered some weird artifact, a portal opened and sucked them all into darkness. And now he was trapped inside a container. So who captured him?
He needed to get out and find out. The Spartan hit the glass like opening and punched a hole clean through it. Another hit and it popped opened. He climbed out and looked around him.
There were several other pods like his, some were empty, and some weren't. Have other Spartans been captured as well? Or UNSC personnel? He needed to investigate this, so he rushed towards another pod and peered into it. The brown pod had an insect look to it, like it was a cocoon or something. When Foley looked inside, he noticed a person was in there. Trapped.
In response, he punched a hole and tore the glass out. After he threw it, he pulled the person out and inspected them.
To his relief she was Human, and to his puzzlement she wasn't UNSC. The woman looked like she was 17 years old. Her crimson hair ran down to her neck, and she wore a red, white and black colored pilot suit. ZAFT was on a patch which was located on her left arm.
So this girl belonged to ZAFT? Foley never heard of them. Nevertheless, he would take her along. Her biosigns were good, but she was unconscious. She was the lucky one, considering the lifesigns in the filled pods were already gone. Either that or those pods weren't filled.
So why are they both alive?
Foley would not bother to answer that. Instead, he needed answers on where he was. Before he could do anything, he needed to run a scan on his suit to ensure everything was working fine. His HUD lit up and began the diagnostic process.

He let out a sigh of relief as the diagnostic came back green. This was a good sign that he still had a fighting chance. More than that actually, he could easily fight and defend himself.
Now, onto the next part, he needed to know where he was.
He looked around and inspected his environment. Grassy fields were in the distance, and he was surrounded by some buildings that seemed like they were of Human design. The writing on some of the buildings was in English, so Humans must be here. A gentle breeze was picked up on his speakers. This area appeared to be a Human colony, as for he could tell it wasn't Earth. Oddly it wasn't UNSC themed either. None of this he recognized.
When he turned around, he noticed a massive ship nearby. It seemed like it belonged to the Flood at first, but didn't after closer inspection. It was pretty massive, towering way above any building in sight. The ship was extremely long with a ring and several spires protruding from the organic like hull infused with metal.
What was happening here, an invasion of some sort? That wasn't Covenant at all! Not even Flood! As he continued to ponder upon that Foley's helmet speakers picked up buzzing from behind, catching his attention. He turned swiftly and faced the direction it came from.
Several Humanoid creatures flew down and landed on their feet. They... they resembled Human-sized bipedal insects with a brown chitinous exoskeleton. Two anterior pairs of what appeared to be vestigial limbs, four eyes, and a large tapering head. These aliens retracted their beetle like wings when they landed and drew organic rifles which folded out as they moved to confront him. They communicated with insect like chirps and trills.
This was trouble. Already he had new friends.
As two of them stepped up, the one in the center started to twitch and shake violently. It's skin cracked open, showing a magma appearance. After a moment, it spoke in a very deep and menacing tone, in English. It had announced itself.
"I am assuming direct control of this form!" It roared out. It's voice reminded him of the Didact's since it sounded similar, but it wasn't quite.
After a moment, it pointed to Foley. "NOTHING STANDS AGAINST US!"
The Spartan threw the girl at a nearby piece of cover and dodged the gunfire that followed. Considering the surrounding area, if he could draw them in close then he could fight them in CQB…
"You prolong the inevitable…" One of the contacts stated.
Bullets whizzed by him before he could stick his head out of cover.
There were only five of them, but if he is correct, the other two would be taking flanking positions. He needed to even the odds…
And to his surprise, he noticed something laid up against one of the pods.
One of their weapons?
Foley darted towards it and leaped towards it. When he landed he rolled over and grabbed it. Foley regained his stance and aimed the weapon before firing it at one of the contacts. A laser beam shot out and pierced right through the alien. As it fell, it's body disintegrated.
He then held the trigger and killed the other contact, slicing it in half with the beam.
"Your attack is an insult!"
"Oh really!?" Foley tauntly asked as he fired it upon the glowing alien. A barrier of some sort stopped the beam cold, to his surprise. A redish haze surrounded the alien. Did it have shields of some sort?
He quickly threw his weapon at it before balling up his fist. If this gun wasn't going to do the job his fists would. One mighty Spartan punch would do the trick. He marched forth, closing in. Right before he could swing, it somehow picked him up and threw him towards the wall. After he crashed Foley recovered and leaped forward. Before it could react, he swung his fist and managed to hit it squarely in the head.
It stumbled back, and then said, "I will show you true power! I am the Harbinger of your doom!"
He was surprised, but he wasn't going to have it. How it survived that hit was beyond him.
Right before he could hit it, it used a biotic attack on him, knocking him to the ground. It then planted it's foot on his chest and aimed it's rifle at Foley.
The alien was hit by a laser before it could land a killing blow. It stumbled forward, confused and disoriented. Before it could recover, the girl he rescued ran up to it and slammed her fist into it's face. It fell back and tried to defend itself by using it's biotics. She breathed heavily, cursing while slamming the weapon butt into the creature's face.
Foley grabbed it's leg and violently jerked it towards him, tearing it away from the girl. The Spartan then jabbed his fist into it's neck, killing it and delivering the finishing blow.
"Kill one and two will replace it!" It violently spoke before burning to ashes. Whatever this thing was, it sure got it's ass handed to him. But how it was able to knock him back without even touching him was alarming. More disturbing was the fact that is seemed like something was controlling it.
"Are you okay?" The girl asked with concern. Her indigo eyes looked at Foley with awe, but a bit of fear as well.
"I am, are you?"
"Yes," She replied, "My name is Lunamaria, ZAFT red ace pilot!"
"UNSC Spartan IV Foley Lockhart," he replied without hesitating. "I don't know where we are, but we need to move. You're gonna have to trust me, and I'm gonna have to trust you. I know we just met, but understand the stakes here. We both are on the same boat. We have to do something about the invasion."
She had nodded in agreement, crossing her arms and laying out a solution to the issue relating to the invasion. "We need to find the Impulse, if we do I can get us both out of here." Lunamaria said, cutting through the chase. Both of them knew very well what was going on here. This had ensured the two would ally with each other. That said, Foley was completely lost by "Impulse" which he simply had to ask. "Impulse?" He cocked his head slightly.
"My mobile suit, before I passed out I was in it... I... I don't remember what happened beforehand." She spoke, unable to recall the details at all. The hulking Spartan turned away from her and vaulted into a nearby house which the girl followed him in. It was rather... unsettling. No signs of panic or fighting. Both of them were equally nervous about this but they needed information. So Foley got on what appeared to be a computer and started a hack.
Hawke looked over his shoulder, scanning the text and pictures before Foley finished and pulled off his helmet, handing it over to Lunamaria. Her gaze met his green eyes before she slid his helmet on. "Wow, this is amazing! You actually found the Impulse?"
"I hacked into the network and managed to get the location. It was in the local news as well. It's near the spaceport," Foley answered as he got back out of the small house and checked his surroundings for any threats. The Coordinator caught up to him and returned his Mark V helmet, which he was quick to don. He needed answers, and Lunamaria might have some. He'll ask her later, when they didn't have to worry about being shot.
Lunamaria with worry asked, "Before we move on Foley, I need to know: What is a Spartan IV? And can I trust you really? I know you spoke of it but I need to know this."
"Elite UNSC super soldiers; we are given MJOLNIR armor and are professional operatives. And as long as you stick with me and be careful I can promise you we'll get to your machine. Now my turn, I noticed you moved faster than any normal Human I know. That implies you are augmented. May I know real quick?" He normally wouldn't ask such questions but he needed to be aware of her tactical value and abilities. A moment to learn would be enough.
Luna looked down, and then back at Foley, who stood seven feet tall and towered above her. "I am a Coordinator, a type of Human that is stronger and better in every way almost."
"Not conscience wise… We still make the same mistakes Naturals do." She replied, "I'll explain later…"
After a brief moment of silence, there was buzzing in the distance. Foley captured two rifles and handed one to Lunamaria. "Pace your shots and be aware of any of the glowing ones."
She nodded her head and said, "I am a red ace!"
"You may be in the mobile suit, but that laser hit wasn't. Aim for center mass."
She huffed and readied herself. "Do you have any energy shielding?" Foley asked with concern.
"No, I don't."
"Stay in cover." Foley replied as he took aim. More of the aliens flew over the wall, one of them glowing like the one he fought earlier. The response had arrived, now it was time to greet his new guests. Both He and Lunamaria were going to have to fight their way out. This was bound to get messy.
Hopefully, help would arrive before they both got shot up to pieces.
Commander Shepard and her team hurried out of the garage that the panicked civilian was hiding in. She and her team needed to activate the colony's GUARDIAN cannons and drive the Collector ship out of here. Her objective was rather clear, since it was the only way to save the colonists. The Collectors came here to abduct them, Shepard needed to make then think twice about doing it again and get rid of them. She, along with Garrus and Zaeed, looked out and at the Collector ship. Steadily she became even more angry, but for a brief moment, the gentle breeze was interrupted by gunfire which caught her attention. It sounded like Collector weapons. That pulled her back into reality.
Shepard ducked and aimed her rifle at the direction of the weapon discharge. Oddly it wasn't the Collectors that were shooting at her. Instead, the gunfire came from nearby. It echoed through the air as cracks. Something was off big time: Either they were fighting each other or someone didn't get paralyzed by the Seeker swarms.
If it was the latter, it would be only a matter of time before they got to them. They needed to get there, quick.
"Commander? What do you think is happening?" Garrus asked, wary of the situation. "Do you think any colonists are resisting?"
It was possible, but she didn't hear any Alliance weapon discharge. The fire sounded like it came from Collector weapons only. This was very, very odd, since the Collectors were not known to fight each other. This ultimately implied someone was fighting them. If so... then Shepard needed to see this.
"There's a chance that someone is still fighting. We need to find them and see what we can do."
"Are you sure you want to do this? We have bigger things to worry about, like the Collector ship," Zaeed pointed out.
That was also true. They had an entire colony to save and time spent wasted would be more time the Collectors had to load people in pods and carry them off.
But she felt like her team should go and investigate regardless. There was something about the event that just drew her in. She didn't know what, just that something told her to go check.
"We're going," Shepard stated as she reloaded her M-8 Avenger. Garrus nodded his head and the Turian reached for his sniper rifle. Zaeed readied himself and backed Shepard. Together they would go see for themselves what was happening and if possible resolve it.
Foley deployed his bubble shield as soon as he saw the incoming Seeker swarms. Somehow, they ignored him before, but Lunamaria…
Not so much. The second one flew on her, it stung her and she stopped moving, paralyzed in place. She must have been put in some sort of stasis field. So he had been carrying her while also shielding her from the fire which would certainly kill her. He had to focus on keeping her alive at all costs. As bullets pinged against the bubble shield, it started to flicker and flare. This was a very bad sign.
If that shield went down, then all of the Collectors would fire upon him. However, it wasn't he that he was concerned for; it was the Impulse's pilot.
She was unshielded and only had a pilot suit to protect her. The gunfire would surely injure or kill Lunamaria.
And he would not have that. They both were a part of this giant puzzle.
The aliens fired another salvo of projectiles upon the bubble shield, further weakening it. He was unable to shoot out or the rounds from the rifle he found would ricochet. If he lowered it either the Seekers would surely get to him or they both get killed.
If the Seekers somehow got him, it would be over. This "Harbinger" clearly stated he was going to experiment on them both and "ascend" them to whatever. Truly all this made him nervous. But such feelings had no place on the battlefield right now, so Foley focused once more and darted out of cover, sprinting towards a parked truck. He could hear the Seekers trying to get past his shield, bouncing off every time they tried to fly in.
At this rate, he wouldn't be able to see a damn thing through the heavy swarm which buzzed around him. He needed to get out of this, fast. A solution was needed, since the second that barrier went down it was game over.
"Your resistance is futile…" Harbinger remarked as Foley fell back once more again. "Surrender yourself and prepare for ascension!"
"Buzz off!" Foley yelled back as gunfire rang out. The thing was, it didn't belong to the aliens contacts who craved for his death. Easily he was able to tell where it came from which he snapped to that direction, facing the newcomers: A team of three with two being Human. Again, he didn't recognize any of the armor or weapons but it was a sight for sore eyes.
They all flanked and fired upon the aliens before they could react. Harbinger turned around and pointed at them before saying, "Shepard! Do not interfere with us!"
A grenade flew towards the shield and exploded overhead, raining fire all over it. The Seekers were burnt to a crisp in the process and liberated him from that duty. In response, he put Lunamaria down between two creates and cut the bubble shield.
All the aliens were trying to fight against the other team, so he'd have an advantage. He aimed the rifle and fired a burst of rounds, dropping two aliens in the process. This captured Collector rifle was putting in some massive work.
It was now in his favor.
Foley fired again, the air crackling and the bodies dropping. After a quick firefight, all of the aliens were in the ground. Dispatched and dead.
He checked his motion tracker before proceeding to reach over to Lunamaria. To his surprise, she slowly turned her head and reached her hand out, which Foley gently took and helped her up. That implied the effect of the stasis must be over, or at least is fading. "Are you okay?" Foley asked with great concern.
"I would have been a goner if it wasn't for you," Lunamaria thankfully replied as she got up on her two feet. They both nodded and looked towards the newcomers, who made their way towards him. Foley inspected them all.
One stood in steel armor with a red and white stripe running down her arm. Her black hair ran down her face, and her green eyes matched his helmet's visor. She somehow resembled him, but not quite. N7 was on her breast plate.
The other was a male, whose face was worn down by age and scars. Half of his face seemed like it was grafted on. Unlike the woman, his yellow and white armor was worn down and scratched. His face was devoid of any fear or awe.
The last one was an alien, like the male half of his face was heavily scarred, the tattoo fading in some areas. His head had pale grey scales and he wore some sort of eye piece on his left eye. He stood around six feet tall, his face having a set of mandibles around his mouth, and the crest of horns. What was the most distinguishing piece about him was the metallic carapace and slender body. His armor had some bulk to it, making him appear larger and the upper chest place was burned. Considering the damage to the armor and his face...
Whatever happened, he was lucky to survive.
Lunamaria had a curious look about the alien. After a inspecting him, she asked, "What are you?"
"Turian," Garrus replied, his voice having a flanging effect. "Are you two okay?" Shepard asked with concern. "We are, thanks to your arrival." Foley responded. "Before we continue though, please identify yourself ma'am."
"I am Commander Shepard, the Turian is Garrus and this is Zaeed," The Commander said as she pointed to the merc. "Fancy armor you have there. Makes you look more machine than man."
The Spartan took notice of the remark but before he could say anything Luna added, "Zaeed has a point." This was common for Foley: People remarking about his armor. To his surprise, the only remark he got out of Lunamaria was on how fast he could run and move. But all of that was not related to the events currently taking place, so he refocused and pushed the objective into the conversation. "We need to get to the spaceport," Foley stated, "Lunamaria's Impulse is there and we would like to get it."
Shepard raised an eyebrow, "Impulse?"
"It's the name of my mobile suit, the ZGMF-X56s Impulse. I believe if I can get it we can repel the invasion." The pilot answered as she unzipped a part of her pilot suit due to the heat. "But the tricky part is those swarms. Even though they seemed to ignore me somewhat, one stung Lunamaria and she was paralyzed in some sort of stasis field. I had to carry her with me."
The Commander acknowledged it and handed Foley an object. He took it and to his delight, it turned into a weapon, which was a pistol. Zaeed tossed his to Lunamaria as well, arming them both. The Commander's team then handed them several weird looking cylinders. "Note that some Collectors have barriers. Aim for the head and use your ammo wisely. Lunamaria, don't get out of cover unless we say so."
"Yes ma'am," she replied. "When your weapon overheats, it will eject a thermal clip. You then reload it with another."
They understood the instructions. "And one more thing, what is your name?"
Foley looked at Shepard and answered her question, and with that: "Foley, keep an eye on Lunamaria. We're here to drive the Collectors off and rescue the colonists, but we can't babysit an unshielded combatant. You're her sword and shield, keep that in mind."
"Don't diminish her role in this, she's as important as I am," The Spartan upheld her. Shepard understood and proceeded to take point like a leader would. "Squad, follow me. Keep a close formation." The team listened and lined up to follow Shepard. They all faced the door that was on the far end, which was past the short bridge. It seemed easy to get there but…
Trouble was inbound. Foley's speakers picked it up. "Collectors, inbound," he whispered. Everyone took notice and prepared but it was barely enough time to even begin. Collectors flew over the wall to the right a few seconds later, one of them being a "Harbinger."
"Get down!" Foley firmly pushed Luna down as he fired upon of them, killing it instantly.
No barriers to stop him. However, as one of them landed it deployed a shield in front it to protect it's self and the Harbinger. The Collector taunted out death threats to the group as it led the attack.
The Spartan had an idea.
He vaulted over the railing and aggressively rushed towards the Collector Guardian, at Shepard's objections. It tried to keep up with him but was too slow. This shield wasn't going to stop him from getting to it. Foley leaped up high in the air and performed a front flip before landing behind the alien. When it turned around he grabbed it and snapped it's neck. Another appeared out of cover and fired a laser at Foley, barely missing him. "Assassin! Get in cover!"
It ducked as fire was directed towards it. The beam Foley was hit with drained his shields almost completely, which was bad considering the fact that Harbinger threw a biotic blast towards him, which in turn threw him back. He sprang back up and pulled out his knife, throwing it at the Collector before anything could stop him. The blade stuck into the Collector's head perfectly, killing it instantly.
Two more drones appeared, but were quickly gunned down. Worrisome though was the Assassin. It stood back up and raised it's weapon, ready to hit Foley with it.
Already he lost? He would be unable to get out of the way quick enough.
He then heard a thunderous roar come from behind. The Assassin fell down, peppered with bullets and bleeding. Behind him, Lunamaria stood with the pistol in her hands. She then aimed it and fired again. Lockhart faced the target that she acquired, which was a massive blue creature that resembled a Flood carrier form, but larger and just as ugly. A massive weapon stuck out the upper body of it. To his horror he noticed that several Humans made up the creature.
The Spartan had no time to wonder, only to move. He ran as fast as he could towards it, grabbing it's attention. "Foley!" Lunamaria and Shepard cried out at the same time.
It's weapon warmed up and fired some sort of skipping shockwave. He jumped and landed right in front of it. Then he reached up and pulled some of the wiring, but before he could rip it out it bent over and released a shockwave to knock him back. He landed on his feet and jumped again, this time grabbing the gun and pulling the creature down with him.
As they fell, he jabbed his fist into the sack and tore it wide open, injuring the Scion. It slammed it's arm into Foley, almost causing him to lose grip. With all his strength Foley took the massive gun and bent it to a 90 degree angle before getting blown back.
The Scion slowly rose up but as quickly it did, it was sprayed down by gunfire. The Spartan took his pistol and fired unto it, landing his shots in the bloated area. After a few more shots, it fell, dead. He stood up and checked his motion tracker.
All yellow dots.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Shepard with zero patience confronted as she marched up to him. "You don't take Scions head on or even normal Collectors like that!"
Lunamaria stepped up and spoke, "You don't have anything to prove by dying. Try not to." The Spartan's visor unpolarized as he replied, taking the words in "It appears I have learned my lesson here but regardless I don't have time for games. These Collectors die, here and now. Time is on the essence."
"Time means nothing if you are dead." Garrus shouldered his sniper rifle. "You can't do any good if you aren't alive."
The Spartan then took the words for heavyconsideration before saying, "let's move on." Which everyone agreed and started to move through the buildings to get to the door. On their way they noticed an odd little detail that was rather alarming. "How come there are no more bodies trapped in stasis?"
"That must mean the Collectors have them and are preparing to leave. We have to get to the Impulse." Foley replied to Zaeed.
Shepard then popped the question, "Where is it at the spaceport?"
"We go through that door and to the right is a massive gun. Right next to it is the landing site." The Spartan explained as he started to hack into the door. After a quick bypass, the panel turned green and the door slid open. In front of them was a massive courtyard with trucks and creates littering the area. Two Scions appeared, backed by several Collectors and Husks.
Foley deployed his almost burned out bubble shield and moved forward to lead the charge. The Collectors fired upon the shield in hopes that they could bring it down. Lunamaria followed his every step towards the right side. "There's the gun!"
Sure enough. The hard part though was getting past all these Collectors. Husks charged them, eager to claw their way to the Spartan. "What… what are those?!"
They seemed Human, but their bodies were blue. Electronics and wiring stuck out of their skin, and their eyes had a blue glow to them. They ran towards the two mindlessly, ignoring Shepard and her team.
Foley pointed to a large create and Lunamaria took cover behind it before the shield fell. When it did the Spartan took his pistol and fired it at the Husks in effort to kill them. All they did was stagger back for a second before attempting to get to him. He went for headshots, which in turn put them down…
Except for one Husk. Unlike the others, it's body was red and on fire almost. It came from the side and jumped Foley before exploding, knocking him back. Shrapnel pierced through parts of the suit, injuring him…. He landed right next to Lunamaria and slowly turned his head. Blood covered his cracked visor, and his vitals pulsed erratically. He breathed, but only to feel a sharp pain. The air had turned to glass. Her shouts were replaced with a loud ringing.
No, this wasn't going to happen.
He wasn't going to lay here and die like a dog. He couldn't give up at the moment.
Slowly, the Spartan stood up, mustering his strength. After the ringing went away, he could finally hear Lunamaria who worriedly tapped on the sides of his helmet.
"Foley! Can you hear me!" She cried out repeatedly. The Spartan answered, "Barely. We have to get to the Impulse…"
His shields were already weakened before the damn thing exploded. Otherwise he would have escaped with barely any injuries. A Collector appeared and fired a shot off, which hit Foley in his left shoulder. Angry he took Luna's sidearm and fired several shots at the alien, bringing it down. The remaining Collectors were focused on Shepard and her team.
"We need to get over that wall," Lunamaria pointed out. "I have an idea." Foley replied as he jumped up and grabbed the ledge before painfully pulling himself up. He stuck his hand down and picked the pilot up.
He then took her and jumped off, landing on his two feet.
Right in front of the GUARDIAN turret was a giant machine. Creates and vehicles surrounded it, along with destroyed security mechs. The machine was around 18 meters tall and was a dull grey. "Can you use this to drive the Collectors off?"
"Yes I can!" Lunamaria confirmed as she climbed onto it and entered the cockpit, which was located in the torso. After a moment the machine's eyes glowed green and it slowly stood up. It towered over Foley and made him feel small. More like an insect really.
This machine was unlike any he had seen. It's head had two sets of V fins on the forehead and looked down at him. The legs were long and the knees had a perfect curve. The skirt was sharp and covered the joints rather nicely, two storage compartments present on the sides. The body appeared to be a module indicating this thing was a four piece machine. Two vents were on the angled chest area along with the Vulcans in the center above the cockpit area. The arms were somewhat blocky but not entirely.
A loud hissing sound emitted from it as it transformed from grey into a white, black and red color. Most of the red was present on the sides of the lower legs around the vents, the main body and shoulder armor. Other than that, the rest of the body except for the trims was white. Part of the torso was black along with the outer feet.
It's hand reached for the beam rifle on it's back skirt followed by Lunamaria sticking her head out and shouting, "There's only enough space for one person! Sorry!"
Foley would have to stay on the ground then, if that was the case. "Alright then. Give 'em hell!"
Lunamaria performed a ZAFT salute and climbed into her Impulse before turning it and facing the Collector ship. It grabbed one of the massive swords from it's back and took off towards the Collector cruiser. Foley saluted and walked towards the wall, jumping on it and climbing over.
All the Collectors were dead and Shepard's team stood near the transmission relay. Foley ran towards them and spoke up, "Lunamaria is going to attack the Collector cruiser."
"All by herself?" Shepard asked. "She's a lively one." Garrus gave a quick nod and then spoke, "The Collectors will attack once the generator is activated. Considering how that Husk banged you up, can you still fight?"
His body hurt and he swore if it wasn't for the biofoam his life would suck right now. He grit his teeth and painfully answered, "I can. As long as I still stand I fight."
"Don't push yourself too hard," Shepard said before she brought up her omni tool. "ED? Bring the generator online and charge up the guns. Let's drive these bastards off."
Airspace over Horizon
Lunamaria Hawke flew her Impulse Gundam towards the alien ship. It was massive, and it seemed hive like almost. She was going to help drive it off by using the anti-ship swords. The Sword Impulse was designed for the purpose of CQB and for dealing with enemy ships. If the massive oversized swords could do the job on battleships and mobile suits who says it can't on that?
Though honestly, now she wished she requested the Blast pack. Or better yet, that Destiny pack she heard a rumor about. It would be far more useful than what she had now.
But as she was taught, use what you have. She did have some time however before she would arrive, so quickly she succumbed to the urge to reflect. Lunamaria then took a minute to think about today's events. If it wasn't for the Spartan, Foley, she would have been carried off. Everything was completely crazy. She felt lost.
But what if the Minerva is here as well? There was a slight possibility that she wasn't the only one torn from her world and placed within another. Truth be told, this seemed like a dream. But it cannot be helped: she was here and she needed allies. She was lucky to get paired up with one whom instead of boasting, actually did what he said he would do.
But like Shinn, he fought very aggressively. Foley charged in head first, just like the Destiny would when enemy mobile suits went up against it. He was brave, but reckless, just like Shinn. Lunamaria then thought about Meyrin and Athrun. She couldn't resist the thought.
Even if Athrun took Meyrin away from her, if he was here would they still have reason to be enemies? What if the Freedom was also here? The Archangel? If they were here should she attempt to reunite with them? Even though they were her enemy?
After pondering upon that thought, she finally came to a conclusion.
She needed to find allies, and if the Archangel appeared then she would find them and seek out her sister. But at the same time she couldn't just leave Foley hanging. He saved her life.
She'd have to find a way to get him to go with her, if possible. But they're both soldiers belonging to different banners, so that may be difficult. Awkwardly, she felt a certain... attraction? No, she didn't know him well enough. For all she knew he could be someone else. To say they are besties would be incorrect but today has certainly made them friends. She'd let the matter rest… for now.
Lunamaria then relaxed her mind and refocused on the Collector cruiser. It still towered over the colony, dormant. Below the massive ship, there was a line. Using the Impulse's cameras, Luna zoomed in. There was a massive line of pods with Collectors surrounding them. They were loading them onto the ship.
There was her chance to save some lives. She dove in with the Impulse and flew down towards them. All of the Collectors looked up and fired upon her mobile suit in vain effort. Bullets were useless against the Phase Shift armor.
The Impulse Gundam landed in front of the ship entrance, blocking the Collectors. She took the anti-ship sword and swung it, carving a large gash in the hull. Wreckage fell and blocked the entrance completely.
All the Collectors below fired upon her mobile suit, hoping to damage it at least. Her answer to them was simple: she tilted the chest down and fired the CIWS. 20mm rounds which tore through then effortlessly.
"Take it!" Lunamaria shouted out. There were no blurry friend or foe lines here: Only a clear enemy that needed to be defeated. She wasn't going to let them take the colonists as well. As she continued wiping the Collectors out, as felt something hit the hatch. She changed camera view to torso and was shocked at what she saw.
A massive crab like creature was trying to get in. Human skulls dangled out of it's mouth, and it fired lasers out of it's eyes.
This was bad: Variable Phase Shift armor was designed against physical and projectile attacks. Not laser. The entrance warmed up, and a claw stuck through. It tore a part of the hatch open, desperately trying to get to the pilot. "Get away from me!"
Lunamaria pulled out her pistol and fired it at the Praetorian. Instead of reeling back, it only continued to try to claw it's way in. It tore through the door and continued to reach for her. She was forced to drop the sword and grab the creature using her Impulse's hand. It struggled to get out of the mobile suit's grasp. She moved it away from the cockpit and crushed it.
It disintegrated as it died.
The remaining Collectors were too weak to do anything. What surprised her however was that they didn't retreat even in the face of certain death. But these monsters were not going to get any forgiveness for their crimes. Lunamaria wiped them all out and secured the area near the base of the ship.
Over five hundred pods were scattered all over the place. All of them filled with people more than likely. Her Impulse looked up into the sky. However, something caught her attention…
She zoomed in and inspected the machine: It was humanoid but slightly smaller than a mobile suit. It had a tan and brown color scheme and held a spear in it's hand. It's wings reminded her of the Freedom's and it's head was jackal like. It's cockpit stuck out from between the legs and it had no feet. It also had an extremely long tail, which wrapped around it's leg.
It looked down at her and then disappeared.
Lunamaria's mobile suit took off into the air. She was going to try to make contact with this machine if possible. After a brief moment it appeared on radar again, but behind her? What was going on?!
The Impulse turned around and faced the machine, backing off.
She then heard a voice. It was rather... creepy. It sent chills down her spine since it was a voice of insanity. The fact that he had somehow gotten through to her was already enough to make her beyond nervous. Sweat rolled down her neck and forehead."Ah, I have a foe... I have no clue how I got here, but I know that I'll shoot you down! Prepare to die!"
It's wings spread out, and it readied itself for combat. This meant it wanted to fight her. She reinforced her grip on the controls and leaned forward. "I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to blow you to bits!"
The Impulse Gundam then drew it's remaining anti-ship sword and charged. However this would prove to be a mistake.
" Praetorian!" Zaeed called out with a loud yell out as Foley turned and faced the massive creature as it landed in front of him.
"Great… another abomination," He remarked as he primed a grenade. "Foley, don't!"
He spirited up to it and tried to place the grenade in it's mouth, but only for him to be blown back by it's biotic field. The grenade rolled off and exploded, showering dirt all over the two.
They had held off several waves of these damn Collectors, and now they send in this monster? These aliens don't know when to quit. It was time to plant his boot up their asses, so the Spartan IV regained his stance and faced the Praetorian with an M-8 Avenger in hand. Shepard and Garrus fired upon the creature from behind, grabbing it's attention momentarily. It turned around and fired the eye lasers which melted EVERYTHING it had hit like butter.
In turn, Foley leaped in the air and grabbed onto the Praetorian. He fired his weapon into it as it tried to swing him off. Rounds pierced right through it's tough armored shell. A purple hue started to surround both the creature and Foley himself.
The biotic field.
"Not this time!" Foley remarked as he jumped off, landing in his two feet.
It turned around and floated in the air, firing it's eye beams at him once more again. He dodged them and ran towards the corpse of a Collector Assassin.
Shepard and her team popped out of cover and fired a salvo of fire upon the Praetorian. Foley used this to get the weapon he was looking for: a Collector beam. He figured if he could get on top of it like before he could use the beam and slice into it. It seemed like a good idea but not at the same time. Regardless he would follow through with this very risky move.
The Spartan found his prize and slid on the ground to pick it up. The rifle extended the second he touched it.
"Foley! What are you doing!?" Shepard demanded an answer while trying to make her voice heard past the gunfire. "Keep his barriers down and you'll see!"
An angered Praetorian turned around and landed on the ground before charging Foley. His reaction involved jumping onto a create before jumping onto the creature again. He pulled his knife out and jabbed it in the second he hit. The Praetorian jumped up in the air and tried to get it's attacker off, but only to fail. "Eat this!" Foley yelled as he jabbed the weapon in and held down the trigger.
The Praetorian tried to shake him off again, but like before, it failed. The beam cut through the armor with some effort and proceeded to melt the insides of the thing. It floated up in the air again, ready to slam into the ground and recharge it's barriers. Foley held down the trigger of the weapon until it stopped firing. The creature was about to die.
Just a little more.
Before Foley could deal the final blow however it slammed into the ground, forcibly pushing Foley off with it's biotic barrier. The Spartan IV landed on the ground, disoriented. He reached for his weapon, only to find that it was missing. The Praetorian jumped up to Foley and attempted to stab him with one of it's legs. He dodged it and instead of trying to get away, reached up and jabbed his fist into it's mouth. He then tore some of the skulls out, which sent the Praetorian reeling back.
Before it could charge again, Shepard's team fired upon it. After a barrage of fire, the creature finally fell. It disintegrated as it died.
The sounds of the guns firing filled the air a second later. The GUARDIAN batteries were now online and together they fired upon the Collector ship. After a minute of firing, the ship took off and soared through the sky, retreating from this operation which faced some heavy interference. They were hauling ass big time.
"Stop them! They have the colonists! And Lilith!" Someone cried from behind. A civilian ran towards them, pointing at the ship. Shepard went to address the Mechanic while Foley fell to his knees. He ran another scan on his suit to see the damage.
The shield emitters got screwed up, the pressure seal was damaged and the suit had several breaches and his visor was cracked. His suit needed patched and some minor repairs. What concerned him though was that there wasn't other Spartans out here which meant no parts. He'd have to repair the suit himself. It is possible, provided the necessary materials are present.
Perhaps these people would have the tools he needed? He'd have to get to their ship.
The Spartan then slowly stood back up and limped towards a create before sitting down. His insides felt like they were on fire. He had been shot a couple times, and adding the exploding Husk, he felt awful lively. The biofoam was the only thing keeping him alive it felt like. To his displeasure he heard an explosion overhead. Everyone looked up and watched what was happen.
The Impulse flew back, trying to evade another machine. What surprised him though was the machine was overpowering the massive mobile suit and out-maneuvering it. But what caught his true interest about it was when it disappeared from sight. A half second later it appeared behind the Impulse, jabbing a spear into it's back. It ripped off the massive pack and cut the power supply for the Impulse.
"Lunamaria!" Foley yelled out as he got up and reached to the sky. The Impulse turned around, forcing the machine to move with it.
The mobile suit was already in bad shape: Several burn marks were present and part of the head was destroyed. With the pack being removed it was now a dull grey and took some serious damage.
The Impulse crashed down and landed in the nearby field, firing it's beam rifle at the unknown, which in turn teleported again. It was far faster and more agile than the mobile suit. Every time Lunamaria had a clear shot the other machine teleported.
This was bad. Very bad.
Before the Impulse could fire the other machine jabbed it's spear into it's head, tearing it off. The Impulse fell completely to the ground, and it's remaining arm was torn off. A brief moment later it turned and flew into the air before disappearing. Foley forced himself out into the field, running as fast as he could despite his injuries.
The Impulse's cockpit opened the second Foley jumped on, and inside was an injured Lunamaria. Glass from the displays pierced through her suit, and blood ran down her face. A bit of blood foamed out of her mouth.
"Lunamaria! Can you hear me?!"
She gave no answer. Foley then pulled her out and checked her vitals. She was alive but unconscious.
Foley then checked to make sure his helmet was recording that battle. After confirming it did, he climbed into the Impulse and tapped his suit into it. He was going to pull the data off of this thing in hopes that it could be recreated later on. About a minute later, the data transfer was complete.
He'd analyze it later. Foley climbed out and picked up Lunamaria. Near the Impulse, Shepard and her team stood a short distance from the wreck, each of them concerned to varying degrees. "Is she okay?!" Shepard worriedly asked for the status report. "She's alive! But she needs medical attention now!"
Shepard then turned around and said, "Joker, get a shuttle prepared and down here now!"
Foley then pulled up the footage and watched it. Once he found a good view of the other machine, he zoomed in on the head and found a group of letters.
"Anubis..." He whispered before walking towards Shepard.
What the hell was going on here?
Everything was foreign here, but hopefully he would find answers soon enough.
